Now Announcing our New Programs in
Environmental Management and Technology!!

The Merritt College Environmental Program in Oakland is one of the first in the nation, and well known
for both its introductory courses and hands-on field courses in diverse subjects taught by working
professionals.

In the Fall Semester of 2007, we updated our new curriculum in Environmental
Management and Technology, which includes a Basic Certificate, and several Specialist
Certificates.  The Basic Certificate gives students a broad background in the
environmental field, while the Specialized Certificates allow students to delve deeper into
topics including:  Human Ecology, Policy, Planning, and Environmental Justice; Ranger
Naturalist/ Outdoor Education; Green Building and Energy Management; Agroecology
and Urban Farming; and .Watershed Management and Ecological Restoration.

Outdoors, Hands-On, Academic

There is a wide range of employment and entrepreneurial opportunities opening in the
emerging environmental and sustainability fields. The Environmental Management and
Technology program introduces the major sectors of the coming “Green Wave” for those
interested in pursuing careers in this area, transferring to a four-year institution, or
understanding the background of climate change, environmental policy, city and regional
planning, food security, green building, environmental education, environmental justice,
renewable energy, native plant and ecosystem restoration, watersheds, pollution,
recycling, and waste management.

This program will help you choose an environmental field to pursue.  We offer small
classes taught by professionals in the field, in a relaxed atmosphere.  Our students are
exploring, preparing for transfer to upper-division or graduate school, changing or
upgrading jobs, learning specific skills, or are generally interested for personal or
employment use.  Our classes are open to everyone, and have no pre-requisites.
