environmental fields: Exploration of enviro fields that are some of the fastest

SUSTAINABLE URBAN AND REGIONAL PLANNING  ENVMT 11        
Code 24505  Survey of sustainable urban and regional planning: Overview of the
problems and solutions of environmentally and socially sustainable planning of
cities, suburbs, and rural areas; history, philosophies and theories of urban
planning; rural land use and planning strategies; and the regional approach to
planning. 3.0 units Freeman and Ralston  SRH  9 Tuesdays 6:30-9:20pm

Survey of the many alternatives to current energy uses: Nature of the energy
crisis, local and national energy policies, new job opportunities, and personal
options; explorations of ways to match needs for energy with abundant supplies of
renewable energy, as well as methods of conserving energy. 3.0 units Douglas

ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION: UPLANDS  ENVMT 30   CODE 24507
Survey of principles, techniques, and their applications to the practice of ecological
restoration above the waterline: Emphasis on the use of native trees, grasses,
shrubs and wildflowers in the urban/suburban environment, as well as in parks and
other wildlands. 2 Units Staff SRH Thursdays 6:30-8:20pm (2/4, 2/11, 2/18, 2/25,

Introduction to the expanding production and distribution of healthy food and
environmentally sustainable agriculture in and near cities: Organic intensive
agriculture, field methods, policy, equity, ecology and economy. 3 units Geathers

FROM TREE TO SEA: A BAY AREA ENVIRONMENTAL CROSS SECTION

Hike, bike and boat the outdoor environment of the San Francisco Bay watershed
environment and nearby sites: Field study of ecosystems of the bay, hills, forest
lands, creeks and wetlands; explorations of sustainable cultural, ecotourism, and
economic uses of the Bay environment. Choose any or all field trips. 1.0-3.0 units

Ongoing real-world projects are arranged every semester. This Spring possible
projects may include Housing Ourselves, Urban Forestry, East Bay Regional Park
